The deadline was originally set for July 9, and Trump had indicated he would not extend the pause. On Monday, however, he signed an executive order delaying the imposition of the tariffs to August 1.
2. US media outlets say the death toll from last week’s flash floods in the state of Texas has risen to 120 and over 160 people remain unaccounted for. Heavy rain began in the early hours of last Friday, inundating communities along the Guadalupe River. The floods swept away many people, including children who were attending a summer camp along the river.
3. The tariffs already in place under US President Donald Trump are putting pressure on some Japanese companies. Firms at a manufacturing trade show in Tokyo say the outlook for businesses has worsened.
