1. Torrential rain has pummeled Japan’s southwestern region of Kyushu and other areas even before the arrival of two approaching storms. People have been urged to exercise extra caution against landslides, flooding and other rain-related disasters. Warm and damp air is flowing toward the seasonal rain front, which remains stationary over Japan. Developed clouds are currently covering western areas and elsewhere.

2. In the men’s soccer World Cup, Japan has drawn 1-1 with Sweden in its final group-stage match. Japan finished second in Group F, booking a ticket to the knockout stage. The 18th-ranked Japanese team faced off against 38th-ranked Sweden at Dallas Stadium in the United States on Thursday.

3. The Japanese government has presented a plan to deepen business partnerships with Ukraine and Poland, to help Ukraine recover from Russia’s invasion. The Japanese, Ukrainian, and Polish governments jointly held an event at an annual international conference on Ukraine’s recovery that opened in the northern Polish city of Gdansk on Thursday.
