1. A stationary rain front over the Kyushu region in southwestern Japan has caused bands of heavy rain clouds to form in the region’s south, resulting in torrential rain before noon on Wednesday. The Japan Meteorological Agency says warm and moist air flowing into a low pressure system along the front also contributed to the downpour.
2. An opinion poll has found more than three-quarters of people surveyed worldwide have no confidence in US President Donald Trump’s handling of world affairs. The US-based Pew Research Center surveyed more than 42,000 people in 35 countries and one territory from February through May, and released the results on Tuesday. On Trump’s handling of international affairs, 23 percent said they have confidence in him, while 76 percent said they do not. The percentage with no confidence in Trump was higher than the corresponding figures for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. In six countries, including the Philippines and Israel, more respondents expressed confidence in Trump than no confidence. In 29 countries and one territory, a majority said they have no confidence in the US president.
3. Japanese companies face an increase in cyberattacks powered by artificial intelligence. Information technology firms are responding in kind by offering AI security services to block the bad actors.Technology security provider Josys started such a service this month. The company says it centrally manages accounts for business apps used by employees and uses AI to automatically detect and lock down information leaks. The service also tracks accounts used by former employees.
