1. Japan’s Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, who are on an official visit to Belgium, attended a welcome ceremony as state guests on Tuesday. The Imperial couple arrived at the square in front of the Royal Palace of Brussels, where they were greeted by King Philippe and Queen Mathilde.

3. Japan’s Supreme Court has dismissed a special appeal by the religious group widely known as the Unification Church seeking to overturn a ruling by a lower court for its disbandment. The Tokyo High Court ordered the group to disband as a religious corporation in March this year. The court said the group’s practice of soliciting large donations from worshippers and having them buy expensive items by exploiting fears about their spiritual wellbeing caused huge financial losses and mental suffering for many.
