1. The massive earthquake that jolted the Philippines on Monday morning has claimed at least 37 lives, injured hundreds more, and forced tens of thousands of people to seek shelter. Rescuers are still trying to reach four people who are missing in southern Mindanao, the area that was hardest hit.
2. The United States has launched a fresh round of strikes against Iran following the downing of a US military helicopter. And Iran says it has hit back in response. In a social media post on Tuesday, US Central Command said fighter jets struck Iranian air defenses, ground control stations and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz. It says the operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on US forces and commercial ships.
3. A woman has suffered injuries from a bear attack in a shrine parking lot in northern Japan. The bear has not been found. Police said the woman was attacked after she got out of her car on Tuesday evening. The shrine is in a mountainous area of the city of Hanamaki in Iwate Prefecture.
