  1. Police in Shanghai have said on social media that a man armed with a knife injured people at a restaurant in an office building in the Chinese city’s Pudong district on Tuesday. Sources at Japan’s Foreign Ministry said two of the injured are likely Japanese nationals.
  2. Part of a dead body has been discovered in a mountain area of western Tokyo, with footprints nearby belonging to what appears to be a large animal. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department said part of the body was found on Tuesday at about 1 p.m. in the Nippara area of Okutama Town under a cliff a little more than 100 meters from a hiking trail.
  3. Firefighting authorities in Tokyo say a record-high number of fires caused by lithium-ion batteries were reported in the Japanese capital last year. The Tokyo Fire Department says a preliminary report shows there were 382 cases of fires involving products using the batteries in 2025. That’s up 139 from the previous high recorded a year earlier.
