1. Trump and Xi have ended their first day of summit talks at the Great Hall of the People. Trump began his three-day state visit on Wednesday. Xi said in his opening remark: “A stable bilateral relationship is good for the world. China and the United States both stand to gain from cooperation and lose from confrontation. We should be partners, not rivals.”

2. Japan’s largest oil wholesaler, Eneos Holdings, says a crude oil tanker of one of its subsidiaries has passed through the Strait of Hormuz. The firm said in a news conference on Thursday that Eneos Endeavor, which can carry about 2 million barrels of crude oil, had crossed the strait.

3. Japan’s government is making arrangements for Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae to speak on the phone with US President Donald Trump about his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
