英語のニュースのヘッドラインの書き取りでは、あまりsentenceのレベルを超えた文法に着目することは少ないのですが、上のような2文からヘッドラインの中では英語のある特徴がよく出ているように思われます。1文目の冒頭に登場したTokyoが2文目ではthe Japanese capitalと言い変えられています。今回は2文から成るヘッドラインの中で見られましたが、同じことは一文だけの場合でも結構多く出てきますので、今後気をつけて英語の文章中に見られる「重複をさける工夫」についても学んでみてください。

The U.S. administration of President Barack Obama is trying to win Congressional support for a limited attack on Syria for the alleged use of chemical weapons. Administration officials briefed members of the opposition Republican-controlled House on Syria on Sunday. Information provided at the briefing included classified intelligence about Syria.
After the briefing, most of the lawmakers said the government has strong evidence to prove that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was behind last month’s chemical weapons attack. However, many said they remain uncertain about what the administration would do after a limited military operation. One lawmaker said the government did not fully explain what would happen after an initial operation. The lawmaker said he was anxious about whether the United States will be drawn deeper into the Syrian conflict if the Assad administration defies the warning and uses chemical weapons again.
