If Japan participated in the Trans-Pacific Partnership free trade talks, its agriculture sector would be affected.

Tokyo Governor Naoki Inose has admitted that he made an improper remark about another bidder for the 2020 summer Olympic Games.  He apologized for his remark. The Friday edition of the New York Times reported that Inose, who also chairs Tokyo’s bid committee, referred to 2 other competing cities – Istanbul and Madrid – in comparison with Tokyo.

The New York Times quoted Inose as saying, “But Islamic countries, the thing they share in common is Allah and they are fighting with each other, and they have classes.”  The International Olympic Committee’s rules prohibit bid candidates from criticizing, or comparing themselves with, other competing cities.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Inose said he spent most of the time in the interview highlighting Tokyo’s strengths.  Inose said he responded to a question that compared Tokyo and Istanbul, and admitted that he said what was correctly reported in the newspaper.  He apologized for the remark, saying it was not proper.  The governor also admitted that he only ahs a loose understanding of the Olympic Committee rules.
