東日本大震災が起こって現在ですでに1カ月以上が過ぎました。現在最もニュースで取り上げられる場所は「被災した福島第一原子力発電所」です。「被災した」に対する日本語は同じ言葉が使われるのですが、英語ではtroubled(6) , damaged (3), crippled(3),disaster-stricken(1), crisis-stricken (1), stricken (1), quake-hit (1)とさまざまです。（）内は、4月1日から22日までのヘッドライン中の数を示しています。

そして、以下の記事のようにドイツ政府自身が原子力エネルギーについて抜本的に見直すことになりました。記事を読んで、下の設問に答えましょう。

Merkel spoke to reporters about the plan on Friday after meeting with ministers and all 16 state governors to discuss the energy issue. Earlier, she had suspended a plan to extend the life of existing nuclear power stations following the crisis of Japan’s Fukushima Daiichi plant.
The Chancellor said German efforts would focus on developing power grids and renewable technologies, including for wind and solar power.

（リスニングのコツ4）serious security forces?
ノートにはserious security forcesと記してあります。意味を考えずに、音だけを頼りにそう書いたのです。連日リビアの反政府側のニュースが続いていたため、全くシリアを想い浮かべることはできませんでした。ウェブサイトのニュース記事をダウンロードしようとして国際ニュースを探してみるとLibyaの記事が無くて、Syriaの記事が2つ目に入りました。そこでやっとseriousと書き取ったものがSyria’sであったことがわかったのです。所有格を表す’sはこの音の環境では/z/ではなく、ほぼ/s/でした。英語を聞きながら、音と意味が遊離していたためでした。
