- In Italy, where more than 20,000 people have died from the coronavirus, the country’s death toll is second only to the United States. While the pandemic continues to go around the world, many of the hardest-hit countries are now extending stricter lockdown measures.
- In the United States, New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo said on Monday that the state’s death toll has topped 10,000. That accounts for over 40 percent of the total number of coronavirus deaths across the country, which is now more than 22,000.
- In France, President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the country’s lockdown will be extended until May 11th. France has been under a national lockdown for four weeks.
