＜ニュースの背景6＞－「ある展示物」とは何かー
韓国の麗水（ヨス）で国際博覧会が行われています。本来、博覧会というものは参加するどの国に対しても、不公平があってはならないし、また主催国も最新の注意を払い、観客が気持よく学び、世界の様々な国について理解を深める行事だと思います。今回開かれている国際博覧会はどうでしょうか。次の英文を読んで、下の問に答えましょう。
Japan has registered a protest with South Korea over an exhibit at a 2012 international exposition in the country’s southern coastal city of Yaosu. Japan decided not to send senior officials to a “Japan Day” ceremony on Saturday. Expo 2012 Yaosu opened on May 12. Its theme is “The Living Ocean and Coast.”
As part of the exposition South Korea displays a miniature oceanic science center that the country is planning to build near the islets of Takeshima in the Sea of Japan. The islets are claimed by Japan. The islets are also claimed by South Korea and are called Dokdo by the country.
In Tokyo on Friday, Vice Foreign Minister Kenichiro Sasae met South Korean Ambassador to Japan Shin Gak-su. Sasae lodged a protest and requested that the exhibit be removed as it conflicts with Japan’s position. Following the South Korean rejection of Japan’s request, the Foreign Ministry decided not to send senior officials to the exposition’s Japan day ceremony.
The Japan day events will be held as scheduled. Traditional dances from northeastern Japan and other performing arts will be presented at the ceremony, which focuses on reconstruction after the March 11th disaster in 2011. (June 1, 2012)

＜リスニングのコツ6＞－文脈からの判断はいつも正しいかー
英語の教師がよく使う言葉に「文脈から判断せよ」というのがあります。英文を読ん
でいて、知らない単語があっても文脈が大いに手助けとなり、「類推ができるはず」と
教師の経験知からアドバイスをすることが多いのです。しかし、今日は、そのような教師
も「類推をするが、いつも当たるとは限らない」という例を紹介しましょう。今回の失敗
は、planの用法についても知識が足りなかったことが影響しています。I am planning to vote…
という形は知っていましたが、I am planning on voting…という形があることを知らなかった
のです。vote againstですでに「反対票を入れる」ことが示されているにもかかわらず、全
くの「類推」でplanning unvoting against…と最初のノートには書き取られています。un-では
なく、on voting だったのです。

concernと同じように「同格の意味を持つthat節を伴う」が、truth, trend, tendencyなどはできません。
